INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER ANEL BAEZA

 

Anel Denea Baeza was born and raised in Austin, TX, and has enjoyed being part of the ACC Dance Department.   When asked who her favorite artist was she responded, “Any dance artist that has performed and worked with other dancers on stage.” Because she loves dancing so much, she enjoys all types of dance styles.  Her current goals are to become stronger and more sophisticated with dance. During the creation of the piece titled, Why We Still Believe in Magic, she has enjoyed exploring how movement storytelling influences others.  Witnessing other dancers' emotions, personalities and ideas has opened up many different ways and ideas to create a fully developed dance piece.  She feels that creating a dance piece with others can push a person out of their comfort zone and allow them to think differently while enjoying themselves and the process. Anel says, “ Life is full of blessings.  It is important to take care of our earth and ourselves”.  After watching this piece, she hopes the audience will walk away with the acknowledgment of the importance of life.
