INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER RENESHEIA ARMSTRONG

Renesheia Armstrong is from El Dorado, AR. She has always loved dancing, from dancing in the church as a little girl to eventually joining her high school’s dance team. She moved to Texas to further her education, enrolling at both ACC and Texas State University, where she received an Associate of Arts in Dance in 2019 (ACC) and her Bachelor’s in Dance with a minor in Japanese in 2021 (TXST). Renesheia worked under Kaysie Seitz Brown as an assistant for CIM TEYA, broadening her experience with children and teaching the art to younger children. During this time, she developed a personal life goal to create a space for children and students of all ages to have access to dance. Renesheia has performed in works by Roxy Gage, Shay Ishii, and Darla Johnson. She is also going into her fifth year with Psalm 149 Dance Company.

For her piece, she wants to depict how we let our emotions have so much control over our lives and tend to live inside our heads, even when we have help and loved ones right beside us. Sometimes all we need to do is look up.
