INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER CICELY HALL
Cicely is a proud wife and mom in a blended family of eight kids. Her heart is rooted in helping others, and she stays active in her community through work with several non-profits. After years in the tech world, Cicely rediscovered her love for dance—a passion she’s carried since childhood—and decided to take a leap into the dance scene. She created PY#O (Praise Your Pounds Off) to inspire others through movement and affirmation, encouraging them to feel good inside and out. Whether you’re in the middle of a struggle or standing confidently in your strength, Cicely believes in embracing every step of the journey.
Sounds of a Champion is a heartfelt tribute to the journey of those living with sickle cell, seen through the eyes of someone who faces its challenges every day. This piece is deeply personal and inspired by Cicely's son, Channing, who is a true sickle cell warrior. Despite the pain and struggles, he finds ways to smile, to push forward, and to win in life—and he inspires me and everyone around him to do the same. Through this dance, we celebrate the power of faith, family, and community to lift us through even the hardest times. It’s a story of resilience, strength, and triumph, and a reminder that no matter what life throws at us, we can all be champions in our own way.
