INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER MARTI WASHBURN
Marti is a dance major here at ACC, aiming to graduate in the spring of ‘25 with her Associates Degree in Dance. She’s always loved to dance and has been dancing her whole life. Starting ballet and tap classes at age 5, she continued to take more classes in jazz, modern, contemporary, and improv as she got older. In high school she was a member of a competitive dance team where she discovered her love of creating choreography. She aspires to take all she’s learned from her experiences at ACC and continue to grow into a mature choreographer and dancer.
Imagine the reality of being stuck. Imagine being stuck in bleak, mechanical cycles. Never going anywhere, but staying trapped in hopelessness and lost isolation from the other people on this earth.
But what happens when someone breaks out of those cycles? Would anyone follow? And if they did, what kind of connection, peace, compassion, empathy, and love can bloom in the cracks created by the pressure of the cycle in them? Would they heal? How would it change their reality? What happens if they Turn Off the Machine?
