INTERVIEW WITH TRAVION MANNS
Photo by ACC Intermediate Photography Course
Travion Manns is an ACC dance major with an interest in music. Manns is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and can often be seen posting KPOP dance covers on social media. He has a dance background in contemporary and hip-hop. His dance style is influenced heavily by family members as well as K-pop idols such as Taemin from SHINee and Jimin of BTS.
Manns’ piece is titled “Set Me Free”. Set Me Free is about one feeling trapped in their own depression. It explores the feeling of depression “holding oneself from expressing who they really are,” and that never-ending battle of tug and push. The most challenging aspect of choreographing for Manns was telling his story clearly as well as using the space of the stage to his advantage. Through the choreographic process, he has gained the idea of there “not being a wrong way to choreograph a piece.”
