INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER PHILIP DAVID WEAVER

Philip David Weaver is an ACC Dance alumnus and current Cybersecurity sophomore. This is his third time participating as a Choreographer in the Showcase. The dances he makes feature strongly defined on-stage personas. The work he is presenting, "Instead of Fire, Another Fire," explores the psychodrama of creating such a scenario. He based it on the question, "What would happen if a writer encountered two different versions of the same character?" Specifically, this dance takes inspiration from the playwright Euripides' choice to compose two versions of the myth of Phaidra, whose characterizations in the two plays differ significantly.

Outside of ACC, Philip has worked a decade in the Texas legislative apparatus. He is a voracious reader, writer of lyrical poetry, multi-instrumentalist, volunteer-activist, home-cook, karaoke wannabe, knitter, friend. He has appeared on-stage acting parts in four languages. A sometimes-drag-entertainer under the name Sheiman Marcus, Philip has appeared more recently as Sister Serena Severe, the duly elected Abbess of the Weird City Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. He loves to eat candy, wear floor-length gowns, and sport several perfumes at once. Philip received a Bachelor's in Liberal Arts with majors in Classics, Latin, French, and Linguistics from the University of Texas.
