INTERVIEW WITH CHOREOGRAPHER CASSANDRA LANKFORD
Cassandra Lankford is a lifelong performer whose love for the fine arts began in her elementary school choir. Throughout her education, she has participated in various extracurriculars such as theater, musical theater, show choir, and dance. Performing became a form of therapy for her, and dance was an art form that she wanted to delve into deeper. By taking classes in studios, she found a greater love for the art form. After some hardships pushed back the initial timeline of her graduation, she is now finishing up her Associate's Degree in Dance and hopes to graduate in the spring. She is focused on building up her technique in the hopes of founding her own company focused on community, dance therapy, self-expression, self-exploration and self-defense.
We are all under the same moon. It takes many forms… teaches us to embrace the phases of life and what is beyond. Some nights, a bit of light from the sun shines upon its surface and reflects back at us the intentions or burdens of our hearts, whatever they may be. Other nights, it gives us a dose of darkness intended to stir us to ignite our own light. Every moment in the cycle is equally important.
Full Circle: The Light and Dark Side of the Moon represents a “swan song” for some difficult things that have weighed heavily on Cassie. It is a story about two entities from seemingly different paths simultaneously exploring what it is to “be” and what it is to be perceived—with both intuitively understanding the importance of balance and the intention of finding serenity.
